These are positioned on a rotating arm which revolves 180 degrees around your head to capture the full image.<\/p> <p>In <strong>preparation for your teeth x-ray<\/strong> you may be asked to:<\/p> <ul class=\"wp-block-list\"> <li>Remove any jewelry, glasses, or other metal objects that might obscure the images<\/li> <li>Put on a lead apron which protects the rest of your body from exposure to radiation<\/li> <li>Bite down on a thin block to open your mouth slightly<\/li> <\/ul> <p>The radiologist, dental assistant, or even <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dentaly.org\/us\/dental-services\/hygienist\/\" data-type=\"page\" data-id=\"64734\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">dental hygienist<\/a>, will position your head on a chin rest and there may be small supports at the front and sides of your head. It&#8217;s important you remain completely still to get a clear image. The procedure usually takes place while you are standing, but if you feel more comfortable sitting, the machine can be adjusted. They may well decide to postpone any dental radiology until after you have given birth.<\/p> <h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Are panoramic dental x-rays necessary?<\/h3> <p>It&#8217;s not always necessary to take a full panoramic x-ray. Your dentist will recommend appropriate radiology according to any conditions they need to assess.<\/p> <h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How often do you need panoramic dental x-rays?<\/h3> <p>Your dentist will make that decision. But what if you need to send it to a dentist overseas or elsewhere in the US?&nbsp;<\/p> <p>The easiest way to get a <strong>digital dental x-ray<\/strong> that you can send via email is to ask the clinic for a digital copy. They may be able to email it to you, or you might get a CD with a file you can attach to an email.&nbsp;<\/p> <p>If you only have a hard copy of your teeth x-ray, there are two ways you can capture it digitally:<\/p> <ul class=\"wp-block-list\"> <li>Place your x-ray in front of a blank white computer screen (you can achieve this by opening a new Word document, for example).<\/li> <li>Place your x-ray on a plain white background (like printer paper) in a well-lit area.<\/li> <\/ul> <p>You can take a photo with your smartphone or camera, but don&#8217;t use a flash.
